This breed is commonly known as an Aussie. They are working dogs. They useful in farms, ranches as a herding dog, retriever and watch dog. This breed has considerable energy and drive. They excel in dog sports like frisbee and dog agility. Aussie are shy dog. It is important to socialize them while their young. It is also good for them to get used to children, other dogs and pets. They are good protectors, easy going, intelligent, delightful, and loyal. They have high degree of intensity and persistent attitude.

Aussie are usually sweet and affectionate dog. They faithful to its owners and is good with children, although its overwhelming instinct to work may subvert its ability to function as a family dog, including chasing and nipping at running children to herd them if not properly trained. It is not difficult to train Aussie. They are intelligent dog and they learn easily. They require firm, fair, consistent, and effective direction. It is important that they know who the master is or they will attempt to take control.

This breed requires a lot of exercise. They are outdoor dogs. They thrive on running, herding, playing, and all family activities. This means that a bored, neglected, unexercised Aussie will invent its own games, activities, and jobs, which might appear to be hyperactivity in the house around fragile furnishings or involve the destruction of yard and property. They need a large securely fenced yard or safe open area where they can run and play.

Aussie has striking and varied coat. They comes in several colors—blue merle, red merle, solid red, or solid black; all can occur with or without white markings, tan points, or both. It is of moderate length, straight to wavy, and it is weather resistant. The under coat is shed twice a year; with moderate shedding between these periods. They require minimal grooming. Occasional brushing with a firm bristle brush will suffice. Aussies do shed and it is advisable to comb with a coarse, double toothed comb during shedding season.
