Australian terrier is the smallest of the entire working terrier. They are small sturdy dog but can make an excellent companion. This breed is an intelligent, friendly little dog that is very good at obedience and agility. They get along fine with children, provided they do not tease it. They are playful, loyal, affectionate, alert, active, outgoing and fun-loving breed. They are very anxious to please and make good watchdogs.

This breed has to be trained quite strictly as they can do their own thing. They can be stubborn but they do love to please and revel in lots of human contact and praise.

Australian terrier adapts well to all living conditions and climates, but prefers environments where it can romp and play. These dogs require an adequate amount of exercise, but at the same time, they can easily fit in with your lifestyle. They have a lot of energy and they enjoy a good long walk.

The dog's coat is rough or harsh to the touch, with a soft undercoat and a distinctive ruff around the neck. The lower parts of the legs, the feet and the muzzle should have no long hair. Acceptable colours are shades of blue or grey with tan face markings, or red. The coat requires grooming with brush and comb once a week.
