Bloodhounds have powerful and strong bodies and limbs, which make them the largest hounds.
Despite their size, they are not good guard dogs and would never dream of attacking.
This dog is gentle, independent, affectionate and friendly.
They get well with children and they can live in harmony with other pets.
Because of their friendliness, they welcome both invited and uninvited visitors.
Bloodhound is sweet, loving and patient. They are considered the kindest of all dog breeds.
It is easy to recognize bloodhound. They have wrinkly heads, droopy lower eyelids and long pendulous ears. Their coat is short and smooth.
Colors are black, tan, red and liver. Some has small patches of white on the chest and feet.
Their coat requires minimal grooming. Brushing once a week is necessary to loose dead hair, no need of trimming and regular check of ears and eyes to ensure early diagnosis of infections.
An adult bloodhound requires a lot of exercise. Hiking, walking, tracking and hunting is good for them.
It is advisable to have a well-fenced garden. Bloodhound has good sense of smell and once on the trail of an enticing smell, will be desperate to find its source.
In training bloodhound, patience and consistency is necessary, as Bloodhounds are not overly obedient.
They have minds of their own but can be surprisingly sensitive and they more profound than quick-witted.
