Flat-Coated Retriever was developed from a cross of Saint John’s Newfoundland, sheepdog, setters and water spaniels.
This breed is not as popular as the Golden Retriever. They are large, athletic dog. They are intelligent, quick to learn, eager to please and keen to join in all activities.
However, they require consistency and firmness during training because they want to do things their own way.
Flat-Coated Retrievers are good with children. They make a good family dog. They are friendly, loving, playful, enthusiastic and good-natured dog.
This dog requires daily exercise. Long walks, games of catch, swimming, and field sports will keep it truly happy.
Their coat is flat and straight. Colors can be solid black or solid liver. The coat must be kept clean and brushed regularly, but its appearance must be kept as natural as possible.
