Irish terrier was developed as watchdogs and for hunting vermin. Today it is used for coursing, hunting vermin, companions and seen in the show ring. Irish terrier is a strong and sturdy dog. It has double coat. The outer coat is hard and soft underneath. Colors are red, wheaten, red wheaten or golden red. In taking care of the coat, hand plucking is required 2 or 3 times a year.
